We made it. And, against all odds, I’ve actually stuck to my commitment of posting once a week—who knew? I’ve been experimenting also with what day to post these weekly updates (Monday as everyone starts the working week. Sunday, catching people as they prepare for the week ahead, Saturday – just to see who doesn’t switch off, and now Friday – as people wrap their week).
For someone who’s spent years struggling to put into words what we actually do at Blue Juice, I’ve really enjoyed stepping back each week to reflect on the bigger picture. It’s also sparked some great conversations and opportunities with both new and long-standing clients.
But if I’m brutally honest, if I keep this up without mixing things up, we’re going to hit repetitive déjà vu mode fast. Projects often span weeks or months, and there’s only so much I can (or am allowed to) share. So, as we roll into February, I’m tweaking the formula 🧑🏼🔬— still keeping my commitment of weekly posts, but now with a little more variety.
As well as agency updates and behind-the-scenes shots from projects, I’ll also be looking at specific topics and industry musings from the world of content production. It’s easy to fall into the trap of “peacocking” – so I really want to make sure we talk in a way that resonates and is useful / informative / adds value with clients, not competitors.
This week, I spoke to a new client who had a horror story about a previous video project they commissioned for their law firm — one that required a full reshoot due to an easily avoidable mistake. It reminded me of a blog post I started writing (and then, in true creative fashion, never finished) about the importance of data redundancy. I’ll be dusting that off and posting it next week. It’s not as dry as it sounds—promise. But it will give you some useful questions to ask before your next video shoot to avoid your own nightmare.
Also coming up in February: AI and its role in content production. It’s the topic that divides the room faster than pineapple on pizza 🍕🍍, and I fully expect some lively discussions. Looking forward to the debates.
For now, it’s been a week of pitches, proposals, post-production, and planning—heres a picture of Matt plugged into the matrix.
